Half-Life 2

Going into this game, I had some pretty high expectations as I was expecting it to be the best first-person shooting game in its genre.  Not only did Half-Life 2 met my exceedingly high expectation, it destroyed it and made me realize on what gaming can do.  The world that the game sent me felt as real as any video game I've ever played through.  The graphics is simply timeless and the physics are top notch, as it opens up a lot of gameplay elements that no other game could provide, especially when I'm in control of the gravity gun. The gameplay control is smooth, the levels are well thought out, and the enemies are well varied and smartly designed.  To add it all up, I cannot recall a single moment where I'm not completely engaged into the game.  Half-Life 2 is easily one of the best video games I've ever played.

Metroid Prime

When I first heard that they’re making a 3D Metroid game and the direction that the game is gonna go through, I thought the game was going to bomb.  But to my pleasant surprise, it is one of the strongest games I've ever played for its generation, let alone, in the history of gaming.  It was able to capture everything that’s great from Super Metroid and translate it perfectly to the Gamecube with its amazing atmosphere, a very balanced difficulty level, and awe-inspiring enemies and bosses.  The world of Tallon IV is an amazing place to explore and the puzzles and level designs is one of the best in gaming.  The gameplay is also top notch as I feel that I'm in complete control of Samus Aran, making me feel like as if I am the main character.  Metroid Prime is definitely one of Nintendo’s greatest games that they have ever produced.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

When I think of a follow-up game, I can't think of a single game that would be harder to succeed from than The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.  However, not only did The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask took on that challenge, it became just as incredible as it's predecessor.  What makes it such a great game is the fact on how different it is from every game ever made, including its own franchise, and the chances they took in this game.  The three-day system is the most ingenious part of the game as it creates a lot of tension playing through the game along with creating a believable world with a lot of depth.  It thrives on having great, familiar gameplay mechanics while at the same time, expanding it to new levels with a variety of gamplay designs thanks to it's masks system.  The game focuses on side-quests and it's probably the best I've played in any game because each quest is unique along with the people you help in this game.  On top of all that, the game created an amazing atmosphere with it's dark and emotional undertone throughout most of the game.  The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is simply a one of a kind game that I probably will never play again and it's easily one of my favorite games.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

If I have to choose one game that I would consider to be the epitome of gaming, the answer has to be Nintendo's masterpiece, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.  Almost everything about this game is perfect.  The gameplay mechanics and design is simply one of the best, if not, the best, that any game has to offer.  It's very smooth, it's flowing, the battles between the enemies are well designed, and the land of Hyrule that you explore is completely memorable from top to bottom.  The game feels huge with it's massive and well-varied world, awe inspiring enemies and bosses, and a great sense of adventure with a good story-line with great lore, almost something right out of the Lord of the Rings.  The level design is extremely creative as the dungeons has some of the most ingenious puzzles ever put together.  And to top it all off, the game offers, quite easily, the most exciting and thrilling climax in gaming history.  The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a masterpiece from top to bottom that set the standard for every game after it.

Final Fantasy VII

As much as I love Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger, my favorite RPG is not one of those games, but rather, Final Fantasy VII.  Everything about this game works beautifully to its advantage.  It takes all the best elements of a role-playing game and raised the stakes even higher that is still yet to be met by others.  The gameplay is very simple to play, and yet, it has a lot of depth to it, thanks to it's ingenious Materia System and smooth battle mechanics.  The story is the best I've ever seen in a video game as it has memorable characters, an intriguing plot, and a lot of memorable moments.  One part of the game, in particular, is the most heart-breaking moment in a video game that still makes me teary eyes every time I play through that part.  The music is also the best I've ever heard in a video game as it catches the fun, intensity, emotions, and action of this game perfectly.  There are very few games that blew me away as much as this game and Final Fantasy VII is clearly one of my favorite games I've ever played.

Chrono Trigger

If I could name one game that captures the essence of fun and adventure, it has to be Square's Dream Team project's Chrono Trigger. The time traveling in the game is extremely unique and the different time periods that you travel has a lot of character to each of them. The gameplay is also one of the smoothest I've played in a role-playing game thanks to its simplicity as well as the depth it created. The look and feel of the game has classic feel to it thanks to its well designed graphics and awesome music. The story of this game is also considerably strong as it gives us a lot of great and memorable characters as well as unforgettable moments. This game is particularly good at balancing lighthearted moments as well as serious moments as well. Chrono Trigger is simply one of those RPG games that everyone needs to play and is certainly one of my favorite games.

Final Fantasy VI

Final Fantasy VI is one of the biggest games I've ever played, which is even more impressive considering it's from the SNES. It just feels like that's Square give it their all in this game and it really shows. Almost everything about this game is perfect. The battle mechanics is very balanced as it has a lot of depth and has the right amount of challenge. The story is one of the best I have ever seen. Even when this game has a lot of playable characters, each one is a very interesting and well developed in their own right. The music is also one of the best in gaming history as each song is memorable and has a lot of emotion behind them. And for the icing of the cake, the game provided quite arguably the most diabolical villain in gaming history. A truly satisfactory game from start to finish, Final Fantasy VI is easily one of the best role-playing games I've ever played.

Super Metroid

When it to comes to my favorite video game system, my answer is the SNES. It's significant to note that because my personal favorite game on my favorite system is Super Metroid. Everything about this game works from its great graphics, spacey sound effects, and an awesome soundtrack. All of this combined created one of most atmospheric games I've ever played and created something that I like to call a video game experience, where it feels like that I am part of the game. Along with its great presentation, it also has great game design with its tight controls, and interesting weapons along with a stellar world to explore. It also helps that the difficulty of this game is absolutely perfect as it is challenging but never frustrating.  The enemies and bosses in this game is super creative and some of the battles, including the finales, creates one of the most memorable gaming experiences. Super Metroid is easily one of my favorite games I've ever played.

My Ten Favorite Video Games

Hello everyone!  This is Chase Bangerter and this is my independent blog where I'll give my full analysis reviews of what I considered to be, currently, my ten favorite video games I ever played.  Before I came back home from serving my mission, I compiled my ten favorite video games and I had a goal that I would play all of those games in chronological order.  Here are my ten favorite current games from oldest to newest:

Super Metroid
Final Fantasy VI
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VII
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Metroid Prime
Half-Life 2
Resident Evil 4
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Keep in mind that these are my current favorite games.  To be honest, my opinion usually change over time (which I'm sure everyone else has that same thing as well), so there might be 1 or 2 games that may not ultimately one of my 10 favorites.  But just to make my life a little easy, let's just say that these are my 10 favorite games.
The main reason why I created this blog is so that I could review some video games and even movies that I think will be fun to review.  For my next set of blogs, I will be reviewing each of the games listed above and explain why I think they are the best in gaming.  I will not give a final score at the end because it's obvious that I would give the highest possible rating for all of these games.  What I may do, however, is create a power ranking that shows games I prefer the most.  I'm only going to review the games that I recently played since it'll still be fresh in my memories.  At any rate, I hope you'll enjoy my blog and have a good day!
